Summary:

We have an exciting opportunity for an Energy Market Risk Analyst to provide energy market risk monitoring (focus on Financial Transmission Rights), analysis, reporting, development and validation of risk-based market interaction strategies, portfolio hedging support, policy compliance monitoring, and counterparty credit analysis. This position will collaborate with key Great River Energy (GRE) stakeholders, and with GRE’s energy marketing partner, ACES.

Total Rewards:

A typical starting range for this position is $105,000 – $144,000 annually. Key responsibilities:

Provide oversight, coordination, and analysis of GRE’s market interaction in the transmission congestion and energy markets
Oversee MISO market operations and interaction conducted by ACES for GRE
Conduct analysis of the energy markets, risk reduction techniques, and GRE resources/resource strategies to develop, support, and oversee implementation of market trading strategies, with a particular focus on managing congestion through the monthly and annual Financial Transmission Rights (FTR) auctions.
Engage GRE stakeholders in strategy discussions, encouraging participation by testing assumptions, perspectives, and biases
Conduct in-depth GRE portfolio risk analysis, taking current and known future conditions into account, and provide periodic reporting of risk analysis, market interaction, and strategy results.
Evaluate and implement new processes/methodologies/approaches/tools and integrate to provide better market risk management monitoring, forecasting, insight and analysis
Evaluate and record performance of marketing strategies compared to expectations
Analyze hedging products and provide recommendations based on expected utilization and risk reduction, compared to cost
Implement and oversee controls for validation of operational dispatch and related data against metering data to ensure accurate market operations accounting
Conduct analysis of GRE energy and capacity contracts, evaluate their performance in the MISO market compared to the contract terms and evaluate monthly settlements to ensure accuracy
Conduct contract review to identify risks and prevent potential disputes
Oversee and coordinate market risk controls and policies
Provide credit risk analysis and recommendation for optimization

Qualifications:
Knowledge typically acquired through four years of college resulting in a bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, business, engineering or related field, with five+ years’ experience in forecasting, modeling, accounting, economics, transaction origination, contract administration, and/or risk management. Experience in the energy sector or with financial hedging is preferred, but not required. Very strong research, analytical, organizational, and communications skills are required.
