NAEMA is pleased to announce this job opportunity on behalf of our member Ontario Power Generation Inc. (OPG).

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) continues to set the bar for environmental protection, community involvement and economic impact—all while safely keeping the lights on. We have our sights on being a net-zero carbon company by 2040 and a catalyst to help the economies where they operate to achieve net-zero by 2050.

In support of achieving our long-term goals, we are searching for a Director of Plant Operations to lead OPG’s hydroelectric production in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada.

Reporting to the Vice President of Regional Operations within the Renewable Generation group, the Director of Plant Operations is responsible for the operations and maintenance of the Hydro Plants in Niagara and St. Catharine’s, including our iconic flagship, Sir Adam Beck complex and the International Control Dam. This role is directly accountable for the safe, reliable and efficient operation of all plant assets in collaboration with peers and will provide leadership in the supporting execution of an exciting, $800M, 10-year capital program to replace and upgrade major equipment and assets.

The Director is responsible for ensuring OPG’s operations uphold the highest public safety standards, employee safety and environmental protection throughout a densely populated city.  The Director is responsible for meeting overall business performance objectives and will create and implement systems to establish and maintain a strong operational focus in all plant activities. They will also give direction on health & safety, operational, financial, environmental and human resource implications within plant operations.

As the ideal candidate, you have demonstrated success in a leadership role driving operational performance and leading in a complex, dynamic and demanding environment similar in size and scope to OPG. You have strong analytical and problem-solving skills and experience working with large, unionized teams. You work well with peers and leaders across an organization to establish credibility, confidence and trust. You are an excellent collaborator, can create and execute effective change initiatives and build high-performing teams. You demonstrate a technical aptitude and possess a strong drive, energy, and enthusiasm to take on complex and challenging situations. Your ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic operational environment will serve you well in taking on this exciting opportunity.
