Job Summary:
The Power Trading team of the Commercial Optimization, Trading & Transmission organization within Southern Power Company interfaces with the power markets to optimize the value of gas and renewable assets, to hedge risks inherent with purchase power agreement contract structures, and to provide net income through trading activity. This position is accountable for developing, analyzing and executing market strategies in the wholesale energy markets, both bilateral and organized RTO/ISO markets. These strategies may include marketing excess capacity and energy from uncovered assets, optimizing market value through day ahead and real time offers, hedging price basis risk using various market instruments and creating margin opportunities through financial power trading. Transactions are pursued in the short-term market (next-day up to two years). The position must perform these activities within all applicable policies, procedures, laws and regulations while collaborating closely with other groups (e.g. Structuring & Analysis, Fleet Operations, Fuels and Risk Control). This position also interfaces with external customers/counterparties.
