Description of KEPCo
Kansas Electric Power Cooperative, Inc. (KEPCo), headquartered in Topeka, Kansas, was incorporated in 1975 as a not-for-profit generation and transmission cooperative (G&T). It is KEPCo’s responsibility to provide safe, reliable, and affordable power to its 17 electric distribution cooperative members. Collectively, KEPCo’s members serve more than 77,000 consumer-members, representing nearly 200,000 rural Kansans across approximately two-thirds of the state. KEPCo’s power supply resources include 74 MW of owned generation from Wolf Creek Generating Station, 32 MW of owned generation from Iatan 2 Generating Plant, 20 MW of owned generation from Sharpe Generating Station, hydro allocations consisting of 100 MW from the Southwestern Power Administration and 13 MW from the Western Area Power Administration, 1 MW of owned generation from Prairie Sky Solar Farm, and partial requirement power purchases from regional utilities.
Background and Purpose of RFP
KEPCo is issuing this Request for Proposals (RFP) to solicit offers from interested parties (Respondents) in order to secure capacity that could include generation and/or storage projects through ownership, power purchase agreements (PPAs), or a combination thereof, with a Commercial Operation Date (COD) on or before May 31, 2032. All submitted project offers must interconnect within the Southwest Power Pool (SPP) service territory.
